Create a truly unique knife in this exciting bladesmithing class in the Bay Area!
You'll join your class at Seaport Studios to create a decorative railroad spike knife.
While some forging experience is helpful, anyone is welcome to join the workshop. You will learn safety, as well as basic blacksmithing techniques such as hammer control, tapering, beveling, and twisting. You will have the opportunity to create a railroad spike knife that we will put an edge on.
If you've ever wanted to learn how to forge a knife, this blacksmithing class is the perfect introduction to a new hobby. Not only is this a creative challenge, but also a physical feat. At the end of class, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment as you wield your new handmade creation!
We will share anvils in this class. Two people will be assigned to each anvil, and students will take turns using their anvils. Blacksmithing is a hot, labor-intensive activity. Just like any other exercise activity, you should be in good physical condition to participate and/or should consult with a doctor.

I am a woman entrepreneur on quest to create beautiful hammered artwork and to spread the love of blacksmithing to other people.
I began blacksmithing over fifteen years ago while earning a degree in fine art. When I had the opportunity to learn blacksmithing I latched onto it. I was so mesmerized by the color and the glow and the power of moving metal. I thought, this is what I'm going to do, for the semester... Many years later and I now have a shop in Richmond, California, with employees, some big pieces of equipment and big dreams.
And while my classes are all project based and meant to be approachable, I want to help others achieve their big dreams. Whether it's making tools, decorating your home with custom metal or creating cosplay costumes. I'm small enough that the students can help guide what I offer in the future.
