Hello my name is Ms.Kia and I’ve been deeply involved in the braid business for over 20 years, starting my journey at the age of 15. I didn’t just fall into this craft—it became my way of making a difference in people’s lives and providing for my family. Being a single mom, I launched my own braid studio and beauty supply business in 2017, and by 2018, I had opened a storefront. Though the pandemic led to its closure in 2021, my passion never faded—it only grew.One of the most rewarding parts of my journey is teaching. Working at high schools or mentoring youth in my nonprofit, there’s something powerful about equipping others with skills that can change their lives. I love teaching because it’s not just about braids; it’s about inspiring others. Providing motivation, encouragement towards boosting confidence and creating opportunities for others, especially young people.What many people don’t realize is that my work goes far beyond styling hair. My nonprofit has hosted workshops on health and wellness, hosting Pop Up Shops for local entrepreneurs to help growing their business. Holiday Give Backs creating unforgettable bonding moments in the community.With my extensive experience, I’ve taught braid classes in formal settings like Lynwood High School and through after-school programs, reaching students who may not otherwise have access to this specialized skill set. My work has gained recognition and opened doors for meaningful partnerships, such as being an ambassador with RastAFri braiding hair company, winning in hair competitions and collaborating with the Afro City Marketplace in LosAngeles hosting a Pop Up Braid Shop.Through it all, my faith has been my foundation. I’m a proud believer in God and my entrepreneurial journey is guided by prayer and purpose. My story isn’t just about braids—it’s about resilience, faith, and using my craft to uplift others.
