What you'll do

Become a confident braider with this Natural Hairstyles workshop! This class makes it accessible for beginners to learn how to braid. In this braid class, all materials are provided, so you don’t have to worry about not having what you need to learn.

When students arrive, we kick things off with a warm welcome and a fun icebreaker to get everyone comfortable with Ms. Kia. Next, Ms. Kia will dive into the basics, covering essential hair care tips and explaining the tools and products we’ll use.

Then, you will move into live demonstrations where your instructor will guide you step by step, showing techniques like parting, sectioning, and foundational braids. Students get hands-on practice with personalized feedback as I walk around, giving tips and encouragement.

By the end, we will finish off with a Q&A to make sure everyone leaves confident and inspired. If you want to learn more advanced styles, you can book a follow-up class which will teach you to unleash your creativity to braid like a pro!

Hello my name is Ms.Kia and I’ve been deeply involved in the braid business for over 20 years, starting my journey at the age of 15. I didn’t just fall into this craft—it became my way of making a difference in people’s lives and providing for my family. Being a single mom, I launched my own braid studio and beauty supply business in 2017, and by 2018, I had opened a storefront. Though the pandemic led to its closure in 2021, my passion never faded—it only grew.

One of the most rewarding parts of my journey is teaching. Whether it’s conducting braid classes Group and/or 1-on-1 sessions. Working at high schools or mentoring youth in my nonprofit, there’s something powerful about equipping others with skills that can change their lives. I love teaching because it’s not just about braids; it’s about inspiring others. Providing motivation, encouragement towards boosting confidence and creating opportunities for others, especially young people.

What many people don’t realize is that my work goes far beyond styling hair. My nonprofit has hosted workshops on health and wellness, hosting Pop Up Shops for local entrepreneurs to help growing their business. Holiday Give Backs creating unforgettable bonding moments in the community.

With my extensive experience, I’ve taught braid classes in formal settings like Lynwood High School and through after-school programs, reaching students who may not otherwise have access to this specialized skill set. My work has gained recognition and opened doors for meaningful partnerships, such as being an ambassador with RastAFri braiding hair company, winning in hair competitions and collaborating with the Afro City Marketplace in LosAngeles hosting a Pop Up Braid Shop.

Through it all, my faith has been my foundation. I’m a proud believer in God and my entrepreneurial journey is guided by prayer and purpose. My story isn’t just about braids—it’s about resilience, faith, and using my craft to uplift others. Whether you’re a student, a client, or a business partner, Youth & Adults alike I believe in creating something meaningful together.
