What you'll do
Experience the playful and therapeutic nature of clay in this handbuilding workshop in Oakland or at your team site. This is a private workshop perfect for team building, birthday parties, or group activities! Learn ceramics basics with your teacher Judy Fleming, such as how to work with clay and what to expect from the drying, glazing, and firing process. You will get a demonstration of hand-building, and then you'll get to build the animal of your choosing. Judy will support you in deciding which animal to make if desired. You may also get a chance to glaze and color your piece using underglaze.These sessions act as a combination of a ceramics lesson and an open and safe space to be yourself, connect, and play. Judy is the facilitator, and the clay invokes a playful, transformative, and grounding experience.The session takes place at Judy's studio space, which is a part of a working artist community. The space has a warehouse feel - tall ceilings, a garage door, ample space to create with lots of airflow.The session will include clay that will be finished and fired in the kiln. You will likely end up with two or more pieces! You get to pick the glaze color. Finished ceramics will be ready for pickup about three weeks after the session.Please Note:
- The studio space is accessible with a wheelchair.
- The studio is within a gated warehouse space, please message me when you arrive.

No prior knowledge required.

Clothes you don't mind getting messy, trimmed nails can be helpful.

In addition, she works in the East Bay as a Mental Health Therapist specializing in her work with youth and families.
