  $100 - $110 ($110 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $100/guest for 2+ guests)

Ready to add a burst of color and creativity to your wardrobe? Join our Ice Tie Dyeing workshop in San Rafael, where we take the classic tie-dye technique to the next level! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to create stunning artwork on fabric using fiber-reactive dyes and the mesmerizing art of ice dyeing.
We’ll dive into the differences between traditional tie-dye and ice dyeing, which creates beautiful, unexpected patterns often compared to delicate floral paintings. With our expert guidance, you’ll experiment with folding techniques and color theory to create one-of-a-kind designs.
By the end of the class, you’ll have created your own collection of colorful creations to keep—perfect for adding a personal touch to your wardrobe or giving as unique gifts. Get ready to unleash your inner artist and have fun with dye in the Bay Area!
In this class, you will create the following items:
  • a bandana
  • a tea towel
  • a tote bag
Students may also bring one or two small items from home to dye, or one larger item. "Small" items may include tee shirts, boxer shorts, tank tops, long-sleeved shirts, pillowcases, etc. A sweatshirt or sweatpants would be considered a "larger" item.
PLEASE NOTE:
In order to achieve success with ice dyeing, the items brought from home MUST be AT LEAST 70% natural plant-based fibers (cotton, hemp, bamboo, rayon, etc) -- the more natural fiber the item has, the better it will dye (100% is ideal)!
Students who do not bring items from home may select from my limited selection of on-hand items and purchase any of them at wholesale cost on the day of the class. Sizes and styles may be limited.
Because the ice dye takes 48-72 hours to process, students will receive ALL of their items via mail within 7-10 business days, and the cost of postage (roughly $10) is included in the cost of the class.

EmmyLou Farr Studio - 50 Belvedere Street, Unit 50-A, San Rafael, CA

The 50 Belvedere units are off a parking lot, but my unit (A) is free-standing and faces the street (Belvedere) rather than the parking lot. If you reach the parking lot, you have gone too far. You can park in the lot, but you must walk south-east on Belvedere until you reach unit 50-A.

A life-long creative, I started a business making and selling ice-dyed clothing and homewares in 2020 amid the Coronavirus Pandemic. For four years, I sold my wares at Bay Area farmers markets and events, including Renegade Craft, West Coast Craft, and The Fellowship of Craft, just to name a few.
In late 2024, I decided that producing and selling my wares at public events was no longer working for my lifestyle, and in an effort to regain time with my family and friends, decided to pull back from direct-to-customer sales. I frequently am asked to teach classes, so I decided to open up my San Rafael studio space in 2025 to share my craft and love of creating with others.
