Dive into the world of Lippan art by crafting your very own pieces in this San Ramon art class. During the workshop, you’ll learn the techniques of mixing colors, shaping clay, and placing mirrors, all while absorbing the historical significance of this craft.
Originating from the rural landscapes of Gujarat, India, Lippan art is a form of mud and mirror work that has captivated art enthusiasts for centuries. Artists meticulously apply a mixture of clay and natural dyes to create stunning murals, which are then embellished with tiny mirror pieces that reflect light beautifully.
For the project, we will use a wooden base (mostly birch wood) for stability and durability, clay, paint, and mirrors. Each piece is sealed with varnish. Hang it on the wall or keep it on a shelf; it will add character to any room.
