What you'll do
Get to know clay from start to finish in this pottery workshop in Oakland with the art of hand-building and wheel throwing. This is a private workshop where you will learn how to throw, trim, and glaze using clay. This course is a 3-class series!Learn ceramics basics with your teacher Judy Fleming, such as how to work with clay and what to expect from the drying, glazing, and firing process. You will get a demonstration of both hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques on the first session. In the second session, you will learn how to trim your piece, and at the third session, you will glaze your piece. We schedule the sessions based on our shared availabilities. If there is time during the second and third sessions, you can practice more wheel throwing or hand-building!How the sessions progress: Judy will do a hand-building and/or wheel-throwing demo. After the demo, she is your assistant and available for support. Your session will take place over 1 hour and 45 minutes.These classes make for great team building! Youths are also welcome to join this unique clay workshop and explore their creativity.The session takes place at Judy's studio space, which is a part of a working artist community. The space has a warehouse feel - tall ceilings, a garage door, ample space to create with lots of airflow.The session will include clay that will be finished and fired in the kiln. You will likely end up with two or more pieces! You get to pick the glaze color. Finished ceramics will be ready for pick up about three weeks after the session.Please Note:
- The studio space is accessible with a wheelchair.
- The studio is within a gated warehouse space, please message me when you arrive.
- Large team building events are possible, please inquire for more information.
