Rug Tufting Class

Create a custom rug and learn a new craft in this tufting class in Chicago! In this 3.5-hour rug tufting session, you will learn the basics of rug tufting to create a 22-inch rug to take home to hang or admire from above.If you're interested in learning how to tuft from step one, this tufting workshop for beginners will set you up for success. With expert guidance in a supportive environment, you can have fun and relax while learning a new skill! During this class, you will:

• Prepare an image using projection-transfer
• Receive an overview of machine tufting and techniques
• Gain some practice time with the machines and supplies before working on your projects
• Receive one-on-one and global feedback with hands-on help
• Receive an overview of finishing for wall-hanging or floor applications, including pile height-leveling and adding backing
• Quick-finish their rug to hang or admire from the floor
• Leave with a new experience and a quick-finished 22-inch rug

Image recommendations:

• Images should be simple in design with 4-5 colors or less.
• Avoid complicated color gradients or textures (tufting works best in "blobs" of color)
• Avoid lettering, fine line details, or lots of line work (these tend to blend together, and you'll end up using a lot of time filling in the space around these with other colors).

Choose between two ticket options:

• Quick Finish: This is our standard decorative finish, and you can take your rug home with you the same day. We use spray adhesive to lay the slip-resistant felt backing onto the back of your rug, and then you'll cut out your project and trim the front with our carpet scissors. If you're putting this on a wall or in a corner where it won't get too much traffic, we recommend this as a less expensive option.
• Studio Pro Finish Package: Will last a lifetime! We recommend this backing because it will lock the fibers in place for generations. We use a commercial latex adhesive that cures to a super flexible rug, giving it some weight and durability so you won't have to worry about your dog, cat, child, or jerk friend that touches and pulls on everything they see. After we've cut out your rug, we'll machine-level the top of your project so that all your details and colors POP, then round out the edges for that quality-finished detail.

This is a beginner class where you'll learn all the basics of rug tufting plus tips and tricks for a successful project.
  Take home a 22" rug that evening with our Quick Finish or in a matter of days with our Studio Finish.
  Please plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of the class time noted on your ticket. We will begin instruction at the scheduled time, and anyone arriving after we've started must reschedule or cancel (fees apply).
