Restorative yoga is a restful practice that is gentle on the body. A restorative yoga class allows the body to slow down and relax in different postures or asanas.
Each asana is held for a longer period, to allow your breath to connect to your fascia (connective tissue). The long holding of poses is often assisted with props such as folded blankets, blocks, and bolsters to ensure the body is fully supported and to allow the muscles to relax.
Benefits of restorative yoga include increased relaxation, better sleep, improved well-being, better mood, and reduced pain!
About Heather:
Heather Ding is a seasoned yoga student who has been teaching yoga for a little over 5 years. Yoga found her exactly when she needed it! She received her 200 hr certification in 2019 from Almaden Yoga with Anuja Chaudri and Nate Jones. She will be completing her 300 hr certification in the year 2024. She completed the advanced certification for trauma-informed yoga through Collective Resilience Yoga under Hala Khouri, Kyra Haglund, and RW Alves in 2021. She is now calling this class “Coming Home Embodiment Work”, which includes not only yoga and meditation, but other modalities such as journaling, somatic movement, energy work, mantras, mudras, and more. She believes that healing is community work and invites questions, inquiries, and laughter into class. Each class is unique as we move through the “topic of the month” and you will be left feeling more in tune with body and mind. She hopes that you will grow deeper in love with exactly who you are now.
She has worked with The Art of Yoga Project from 2019-2020. She has logged in over 30 volunteer hours and has been named volunteer of the year 2020 with San Jose Library/Edenvale Branch. Receiving her Laughter Yoga certification in 2021, she hopes to bring more “childlike play” back into your life.
