Curious about pottery? This ceramics workshop in Vallejo is the perfect introduction to a new hobby or a fun way to spend an evening! In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will try both hand building and wheel throwing!
This is an opportunity to tour the basics before committing or get your hands dirty and unwind as you learn new skills. All tools, materials, clay, and instruction is provided, making it easy to dive into this exciting medium!
The evening will start with an introductory lesson on the potter's wheel where you will learn the basics of making a low bowl through demonstration and hands-on guidance. You will get to feel the sensation of spinning clay under your hands as you try to form a pot. Next, you'll sit down at the wheel, with pre-centered clay to throw your own pot!
Next, head over to the hand building table where you can experiment and play with a fresh chunk of clay. Pinch a small bowl or roll out a slab to make a vase! Your instructor will expertly guide you along and help you finish a functional or sculptural piece.
Bring your favorite beverage to enjoy during this part of the evening. From solo adventures to craft nights with friends or a date, this creative and lively workshop is perfect for anyone ready to play with clay.
After you've finished class, you will leave your creations at the studio for your instructor to glaze and fire them for you.

This clay workshop was born in the pottery studio of Whitney Smith, founder and owner of Vallejo Clay workshop and has moved into it's own space. The studio is now located at 304 Georgia Street in beautiful downtown Vallejo.
The studio is an inspirational space where groups of students can gather and create work. The studio is currently equipped with throwing wheels, work tables, a slab roller, kilns, and a variety of tools needed to make functional or sculptural work.
