Curious about pottery? This ceramics class in Vallejo is the perfect introduction to a new hobby or a fun way to spend an evening! In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will try both hand building and wheel throwing!
This is an opportunity to tour the basics before committing or get your hands dirty and unwind as you learn new skills. All tools, materials, clay, and instruction is provided, making it easy to dive into this exciting medium!
The evening will start with an introductory lesson on the potter's wheel where you will learn the basics of making a low bowl and cup or vessel through demonstration and hands-on guidance. You will get to feel the sensation of spinning clay under your hands as you try to form a pot. Next, you'll sit down at the wheel, with pre-centered clay to throw your own pot!
Next, head over to the hand building table where you can experiment and play with a fresh chunk of clay. Pinch a small bowl or roll out a slab to make a vase! Your instructor will expertly guide you along and help you finish a functional or sculptural piece.
Bring your favorite beverage to enjoy during this part of the evening. From solo adventures to craft nights with friends or a date, this creative and lively workshop is perfect for anyone ready to play with clay.
After you've finished class, you will leave your creations at the studio for your instructor to glaze and fire them for you.

5.0 (1)

Vallejo Clay Workshop is located in the pottery studio of Whitney Smith in beautiful downtown Vallejo. Whitney has been a full-time potter for over 20 years, and started her studio in Oakland, California before moving to Vallejo with her husband and cat in 2018. She opened her new studio on Marin street in March of that year.
Starting a workshop to teach students was not part of the original plan when Whitney moved to Vallejo. But so many locals asked for an opportunity to get their hands in clay that Vallejo Clay Workshop insisted in being born.
The studio is an inspirational space where groups of students can gather and create work. The studio is currently equipped with work tables, a slab roller, kilns, and all the tools needed to make functional or sculptural work.
Because space is limited, classes and workshops are small and individual attention to students is key. We will continue to add new classes, be sure to sign up for our email list so you can be the first to know!
