Art activities are one of the best things to do in San Francisco with kids as it nurtures their creativity and develops confidence. Join this six-part weekly art class that has your little ones making different kinds of self-portraits for fun and learning.
Your young artists will be guided by a friendly teacher from Spark Studio as they pick up new skills and learn how to paint, create, draw, and let their imagination run wild. They will gain a greater sense of themselves while having a great time getting crafty.
Kids will be making two-dimensional and three-dimensional self-portraits with all kinds of materials. It all begins by experimenting with paper mâché to make a sculpture of themselves. Next up is combining drawing and painting techniques to make a classic self-portrait artwork. The last step is to create a collage that represents their life journey through cut-out images and text as an artistic metaphor.
This six-week course is best enjoyed with a group of friends that they can share stories with as they let their inner artists free. Get a group of their friends, siblings, cousins, or neighbors together as the parents relax and the kids all have a blast.

I’m Carrie Leeb, an artist/designer/teacher/entrepreneur/Bay Area native, and I love making things. I feel most alive when I’m creating, and I want to impart this same passion for exploring, experimenting, and making to as many people as I can (like you!). Spark Studio’s a place where this happens.
As a teacher and a mentor, I’ve inspired and encouraged many adults and kids to tap into their creative side and experience the joy that goes along with creating. I believe the essence of making is learning to trust the unique inner voice that’s in each of us, combined with a lot of experimentation and play. I love hearing people say, “I didn’t think I was creative, but I had so much fun making this!” Connecting creatively to ourselves and making new discoveries is energizing - no wonder it’s fun! Spark Studio is a place where people of all ages are free to express themselves creatively. It’s a place to discover the masterpiece that each of us is.
