In this Bay Area workshop, the ceramic studio is the beach! You'll learn the art of Mindful foraging for wild clay and learn how to process and sculpt it into a small mask, candle holder, or catch-all-dish.
This mindful ceramics class is led by a teacher from Artillery who, in addition to teaching you how to find and work with wild clay, will infuse the workshop with
Artillery's core values of nature, culture, and family. Artillery intends to:
  • Connect to and honor our Indigenous Cultures
  • Activate our connection with the Earth and preserve nature
You are welcome to bring a small offering of food, flower, breath, fire, song, or anything else. There will be an opportunity to offer your gift at a community gratitude space we will carve out at the foraging location.
This workshop is one of the best SF activities for nature lovers, as it gives you the chance to engage with the natural world in a whole new way.
We’ll end with a closing circle where we all share what we learned.
Please Note:
This activity requires moderate to advanced mobility and may not be accessible for all people. The hike down to the beach consists of sand and rock. Please consider the needs of all your team members before choosing this option!

Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly.

What you'll get
One small un-fired vessel to take home.

What to bring
  • Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Depending on weather - layers because SF beaches get cold. Swimsuit, sun hat and sun protection for a sunny day.
  • Water, lunch and/or snacks.
  • Picnic/beach blanket or yoga mat.
  • Small Tupperware-like container to pack your clay vessel with you.
  • Backpack to pack what you need, but pack lightly.
  • A spirit of mindfulness! In foraging clay directly from nature, we can connect directly with the generosity of the earth. Bring your thoughts of love and gratitude for this planet we call home.

In the summer of 2009 Artillery AG blossomed in the Mission district of San Francisco. Founders Iván Lopez and Alexa Treviño set out to establish a creative gallery and studio that would embody Nature, Familia, and Cultura.
Artillery AG is home to many art forms that we are able to connect with. Creating with clay, earth, paint, and photography.
With clay and flora, we are able to honor our Pachamama. We connect with our earth each time we mold clay and tend to our plantitas. Giving thanks to the Ohlone people for allowing us to be on their land.
Through photography, we reflect on the times and also our ancestors in each moment. Reminding us of the beauty we have within ourselves and that of our community, immortalized with light.
Painting is an act of resistance. You can see the stories of our people painted on the walls of the Mission. Each color expressing our vibrant cultura. Art is the universal language so powerful we can understand each other with just a brushstroke.
At Artillery AG we prioritize being a safe space for our QT and BIPOC Community. We will not accept hate in our space.
We welcome you to join our creative familia.
Art is good for you homie!
