Pottery Class: Sgraffito Technique

Combine art and pottery in this sgraffito workshop in Pacifica!

2 hours

Class size 1 to 6 (public classes), 1 to 8
$85

Learn how to decorate your clayware in this pottery class in San Francisco area! In this workshop, you will explore the art of Sgraffito. Sgraffito means "to scratch" in Italian, and is a decorating pottery technique produced by applying layers of color to leather hard pottery and then scratching off parts of the layer(s) to create contrasting images, patterns, and texture and reveal the clay color underneath. The layer(s) of color can be underglazes or colored slips.
This class is perfect for beginners, as you will be provided with a plate and bud vase hand thrown and painted at the leather hard stage ready for scratching. Come with a design in mind and we will review the skills and then practice with both pieces.
Whether you're a ceramicist looking to learn a new technique or a total beginner who wants to spend a day exploring your creativity, you'll enjoy this hands-on pottery workshop.
