The age-old skill of making and shaping dough is at your fingertips! Whether a beginner or a seasoned veteran, working with dough is a very relaxing activity that helps you release stress with every pinch and punch.
In this class, you’ll learn the basic ingredients needed for doughmaking and play with the consistency of dough, experiencing the tactile changes to it as you knead it and pound it. After a break to let the dough rest, we shape it, detail it, and make it come alive! At the end of the experience, you will have the knowledge and skills to recreate these anytime you want for yourself, friends, and family.
Although it may seem daunting, the process is actually very easy to pick up and gets easier the more you do it. In fact, if you’ve made dough before, this might even be too easy. Feel free to take things up a notch and experiment with different shapes and sizes!
Design Options
  • Matcha turtles - matcha flavored mantou (no filling)
  • Roses - rose flavored mantou (no filling)
  • Nise Sumikko Gurashi - plain flavored mantou (no filling)
  • Black Sesame Hedgehogs - black sesame flavored bao (with filling)
This activity is suitable for parent-and-me classes where parent and child work collectively on the same creation.
Plan an interactive birthday party or a team building activity and enjoy making treats together.
Public Workshops
Public workshops are held at Jiaren Cafe in Santa Clara. The cafe provides 20% off all their food, drinks, and products for attendees of classes!
Please note
  • Flavors, designs, and ingredients are customizable.
  • Kids under 9 can attend for free (though without extra material)
  • Buns are steamed! They are mantou.
FAQ
Q: Do they have filling?
A: Currently, only the hedgehogs have filling, and it's a black sesame filling. For private events, we can try other fillings!
Q: Are they vegan?
A: The roses, turtles, and nise sumikkos are vegan. Hedgehogs use butter and milk but can be adjusted to be vegan.

Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly but patience is required as the task is time-consuming.

What to bring
You will need to provide a kitchen space with running water and a stovetop. Instructor can bring a portable stovetop, if needed.
Instructor will provide all needed ingredients. Feel free to bring additional ingredients, and of course bring your can-do attitude!
Suitable for

This class is great for a team building activity, Christmas party or bachelorette party.

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 9 years old).

Adult accompaniment is not required.

Your teacher can travel within 30 miles of Fremont, to a venue of your choice
