What you'll do
In this engaging figure drawing class in Brooklyn, you start a new hobby or refine your existing skills! This workshop will focus on learning how to draw the parts and motions of the lower body. This class includes a mix of 30-second gestural drawings, 1-minute, 5-minute, and 10-minute poses followed by a final 20-minute pose. Each class will include one model who will be nude during each pose. All phones will be collected at the start of the class and available during breaks.After this class, you will be able to draw the lower body by breaking it into manageable components. You will also learn how the lower body moves and its relationship to how the figure interacts within a setting, for example, the lower body when standing, sitting, and kneeling.Instruction topics:
- A breakdown of the shapes and forms that make up the parts of the lower body (e.g., legs, feet, hips, etc.).
- Visual materials include a drawn diagram of the lower body with very basic muscular system anatomy information followed by a demo of drawing the visual relationship between the parts of the lower body (e.g., the range of motions of the legs and how that relates to the hip placement in the pelvis).
- There will be an emphasis on visually understanding the shapes and forms that make up the pelvis and how it functions within the lower body parts.
- There will also be a small but important lesson on how the relationship of the feet on the ground in standing poses defines gravity and weight.

The Brooklyn Loft is an art and workshop studio located in Bushwick, dedicated to creating meaningful, one-of-a-kind experiences centered around community for LGBTQ+ and a/Artist individuals. In April 2023, it began hosting figure drawing sessions with a weekly event called Queer Figure Drawing. Since then, The Brooklyn Loft has expanded its offerings to 5-6 sessions a week, pushing the boundaries of traditional figure drawing with themes such as Britney Spears, Barbie, Beyoncé, and burlesque. Additionally, the studio has diversified its workshops to include collage, poetry, and other hobbies beyond figure drawing.
