Learn how to cook five delicious Japanese dishes at this live streaming Japanese cooking class! 

The food of Japan is often based on the freshest seafood, seasonal vegetable and Japanese ways of simplicity, and during this cooking class, our experienced Chef will take you through beautiful dishes that you can replicate at home.
We have chosen recipes for this series, that do not require hard to find, specialist ingredients or unique kitchen equipment. That said, Japanese food does rely on a few core ingredients and you will need the odd jar of miso, dried shiitake mushroom or bottle of soya sauce. Once bought these core Japanese ingredients can be kept in store for use again and future meals.

During the live stream:
  • Our chef will demonstrate how to make Japanese recipes
  • We will work on the Daishi stock then the soup
  • We will work on the salmon and chicken next.
  • Lastly, we will work with cucumber and salad.
  • Chopping, rolling, folding and preparing your dishes - all hands-on

  • This is online class so you will get access to the class as soon as you sign up - we will send you recipes, videos and Zoom details. No cancellation but you can change the date.

Perfect for beginners. We recommend this program for children 10 years old or older.

What to bring

- You are welcome to BYO your own wine and beer. However for safety, please focus on cooking and you can drink with the meal later. 

  • We recommend for you to measure and put all the ingredients on a dish/tray to be ready to cook.
  • We recommend comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes. It’s a great idea to tie your hair back if it’s long too.
  • An ingredients list will be sent to you upon booking. The ingredients for this class are estimated to cost around $25 to $30. However, you may already have some of these ingredients at home and the cost may differ depending on where you buy the ingredients. We encourage you to go out and explore your local Asian shops and supermarkets. You will also likely have leftover ingredients to use in the future.

Chef Hà Nguyen began his career in Hanoi local restaurants and the Hilton Opera Hotel before travel, study and work in Wellington, New Zealand –New Zealand Diploma in Cookery and Bachelor in Hospitality Management at Wellington Institute of Technology. Chef Hà has started with Intercontinental Hotel Wellington, working with Twelve Apostles Lodge Walk developing menu for Alkina Lodge along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, delivering nourishing and fresh menus to clients.
He believes that cooking, eating and sharing should be an experience, not just a meal. He created OTAO Kitchen as an extension of his passion for food and to share this passion with others. Food plays an important role in his Vietnamese culture heritage and is central to his family life. Sharing a meal with family and loved ones is a traditional and happy experience. He wishes to extend this experience to you and welcome you to OTAO Kitchen.
