Join a friendly and knowledgeable Chef-Instructor from Home Cooking New York for an eye-opening tour of the most iconic and beloved farmer's market in New York City: The Union Square Greenmarket. You'll shop for groceries for a beautiful locally-sourced lunch.
Along the way, you will learn:
  • What makes something “local”
  • Why “organic” is not the most important label at the market
  • What is currently in season and at its peak of flavor
  • What are the most important products to buy at the market
  • Tips for choosing the best produce
After the food tour and shopping (45 minutes - 1 hour), you'll head back to your location (no kitchen required, just a large table), and we’ll make a hearty fresh lunch spread, featuring locally-made products from the market: fresh cheeses, cured meats and fish, assorted breads, chutneys, fresh vegetables and fruits, and a special dessert.
It's an ideal team bonding activity for colleagues, family, friends, and more! And the added bonus of this tour is that you will also be supporting local farmers and artisans by shopping small and local.
What to expect
  • 2 - 2 1/2 hour event, including lunch, based on your distance from USQ Greenmarket (East 14th/4th Avenue)
  • Minimum: Eight people. Maximum: Fifteen
  • All items purchased at the market are included in the price.
Please note:
  • The Union Square Greenmarket is only open -- and therefore we can only host this class -- on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
  • Home Cooking New York can host the lunch at their cooking school in SoHo for an additional $250.

Home Cooking New York was founded in May 2002 by founder Jennifer Clair. After years of writing cookbooks, recipes, and food editorials, the opportunity to come together with eager culinary students in a kitchen classroom seemed like the next logical step. Back then, Jennifer was the sole chef-instructor, teaching nightly private cooking classes in students’ home kitchens all over New York City. Over the last 17 years, the company has grown to include five outstanding chef-instructors!
We have our own cooking school in Manhatten, SoHo where we love to share our passion for good food with fellow home cooks! Or, our amazing chefs can come to your home to help you cook up a wonderful feast. You can also find our incredible classes in a virtual experience.
