Celebrate French Canadian holiday traditions with this festive virtual cooking class filled with sweet and savory bakes! Begin by warming your kitchen (and your senses) with a fragrant mulled wine infused with orange, star anise, and a blend of seasonal spices.
Then, dive into creating a traditional Quebecois pie with scratch-made butter pastry. Choose between two iconic options: Tourtière, a spiced pork and potato pie beloved in Quebec’s holiday feasts, or a Salmon Pie, a simpler, sustainable twist on the classic. Tourtière is typically made with pork, though it may also include game meats like venison, and is best served with a side of Dijon mustard.
Finish on a sweet note with Hermits, a spiced molasses cookie studded with fruits and nuts, which French Canadian children often leave out for Père Noël (Father Christmas). This nostalgic treat is baked in logs, then cut into bars, and traditionally features raisins and walnuts, though you can customize it with other dried fruits or leave out the nuts.
In this hands-on virtual class, you’ll practice at home essential baking skills, test advanced techniques, and learn the unique pronunciations for these traditional dishes. Bring the flavors of Quebec to your holiday table with these new showstoppers that are sure to impress!
