Advance your figure-drawing abilities through figure drawing class in Brooklyn. In this intermediate workshop, you will focus on the lower body in depth.
After this class, you will be able to draw the lower body with a deeper understanding of how these parts of the body can be depicted in a foreshortened perspective and how their construction allows for figures to exist in the pictorial plane. A special emphasis will be placed on sitting, kneeling, standing, and laying and how they relate to the ground plane.
The class includes a mix of 30-second gestural drawings, 1-minute, 5-minute, and 10-minute poses followed by a final 20-minute pose. The class has one model who will be nude during each pose. All phones will be collected at the start of the class and available during breaks.
Instruction topics:
A lecture on the legs and feet and how they interact with the pictorial plane. Visual materials will include diagrams of the anatomy of the thigh, knee, calf/shin, ankle, foot, and toes.
The demo will include simplified methods and practices for depicting the legs and feet in various poses and positions with respect to the ground plane with an emphasis on depicting the legs with foreshortening (linear perspective drawing).
Knowledge required
Intermediate drawing skills and comfortable drawing figures.
