Intermediate Figure Drawing Class: The Upper Body

Study the upper body in depth in this figure drawing class for intermediate artists in NYC. In this class, you will have the opportunity to refine your drawing skills with personalized instruction. After this class, you will have a better understanding of what details depict how the arms and hands interact with different objects and surfaces. This class gives a deeper understanding of how the upper body can be manipulated and posed with an emphasis on depicting these parts of the body from a foreshortened perspective.This class includes a mix of 30-second gestural drawings, 1-minute, 5-minute, and 10-minute poses followed by a final 20-minute pose. The class has one model who will be nude during each pose. All phones will be collected at the start of the class and available during breaks.Instruction Topics:A lecture on the arms and hands and how they are most commonly positioned and interacted with. Visual materials will include diagrams of the anatomy of the fingers, hands, arms, chest, shoulders, and back. The demo will include simplified methods and practices for depicting the arms and hands in action with objects.
