In this story:
Charly Uzcategui, founder of Terrart NYC felt a deep connection with the lush world of indoor plants when he was a child growing up in Venezuela. His parents started making terrariums for loved ones in the 1980s and not only did the idea grow into a thriving business, it also helped Charly discover his creative passion.
After studying engineering at university, Charly moved to New York City and rekindled his love for plants with a terrarium business of his own. He knew the benefits of bringing the beauty of nature indoors, and he wanted to share the joy. Terrart NYC is a place where anyone can make sustainable plant arrangements. Charly and his instructors create a welcoming place to learn, relax, and feel inspired one mini ecosystem at a time.
It all started when I was 7 years old…
“My parents began handcrafting small terrariums during the 80s. I helped them pick moss, collect volcanic and sedimentary rocks, and select plants. I grew up surrounded by plants and terrariums and always had a strong connection with earth and nature.”
Creativity feels good…
“Since I was a child I always liked to paint landscaping and make dioramas with some terrarium leftovers. I decided to study petroleum engineering and geo-sciences in college but I redesigned my professional background to be more caring for the planet and the best way that I found was teaching people how to make their own miniature world.”
Busy city dwellers love making time to learn something new…
“I thought I was offering something unknown, something people were not used to making. However, it was the opposite. New Yorkers love to try new things and our terrariums are one of those experiences people are looking for.”
Terrariums will be your new favorite hobby…
“They will connect you with nature and the earth. We realized that people in big cities like NYC are looking for unique experiences, but also with a twist of nature. Terrariums are easy to care for, low maintenance, and pet friendly.”
Our creative community keeps me inspired…
“As an artist, I am always looking to innovate and bring new items and materials to make the experience more unique and memorable. This process never stops and has enriched our lives now that my sister is part of Terrart NYC and we offer Moss Wall Art classes.
You should try…
“Our Cube terrarium workshop because it is a very rich and complete class. You will learn about geology, biology, landscaping, sustainability, and art.”
