Looking for unique things to do in New York? Join Call To Gather for this relaxing workshop and discover the art of modern Kintsugi. Kintsugi embodies new beauty made through imperfections. It’s an artistry of mending broken pieces, symbolically representing how brokenness in our lives can transform into beauty and power.

Instead of hiding chipped and broken parts, when imperfections are pronounced with the gold, symbolizing the light, you behold something that’s even more beautiful. It’s an art form of mending to make new.

Over two and a half hours, we’ll have an open time to share personal discovery as we apply Kintsugi to a piece we’ve each brought in with us. We’ll share personal reflection and beholding time, and craft Kintsugi pieces with personal meaning to cherish forever. You'll work with materials like gold and broken pieces, experiencing the meditative aspect of applying kintsugi to your piece.

At the end of the class, take home your uniquely mended piece as a testament to the power of embracing flaws and transforming them into something extraordinary!

Sarah Tintle

As a pediatric physical therapist for the past 15 years, her work has framed how she views her role as a kintsugi facilitator. Sarah’s desire is for all people (children and adults!) to be able to live their lives to their fullest potential. She sees play as an essential component to learning, not only with pediatric clients, but with adult learners as well. She holds a B.S. from Vanderbilt University and a DPT from Duke University. Sarah is also a committed advocate for a variety of organizations including International Justice Mission, Safe Families for Children, Down Syndrome Achievement centers, and LifeWay Network. And, she is a mom, and enjoys spending time with her three amazing and crazy children and her dog, Caesar!

Call to Gather

The inspiration for Gather was sparked by a dream in 2019:

I heard a voice say, “I gave you raw materials. Go. Make. Play.”

I responded, “Like what?”

The voice said, “Mud.”

I asked, “What does that even mean?”

Then I saw a vision of neatly organized writing products in bright yellow. I woke up in the middle of the night, wrote those exact words on my phone, and thought, “That’s another mysterious note from God.”

Around this time, I was hosting a monthly prayer gathering with artists and entrepreneurs at my design studio, Little Fury Design. I called it “Gather.”

This “Gather” became a sacred time of sharing, of praying, of encouraging, and of fueling each other’s spirits. It also prompted collaborations between the artists who came to pray.

After the pandemic hit, I felt a stronger urge to build what Gather could be, regardless of how we could meet. It became clear that this community and collaboration we were finding as artists is actually one that is accessible and powerful for all people, regardless of background or career. A few of the initial artists agreed to share their unique crafts—as our first Gather Artists. And Gather’s purpose solidified: we are a community through making.
