Growing up in a family of artists, I had an affinity for all things creative since a young age. Inspiration was everywhere, from my mother's stone sculptures to my sister's colorful impressionist paintings, to my father's poems. I studied at The Art Institute of San Francisco, where I honed my painting, sculpture, and design skills. I was hired out of college to work at Lucasfilm, where I worked as a designer on Star Wars for many years. The Lucasfilm studios are essentially a museum with all its rich history on display. Walking down the hall, you'll pass an actual ET used on set, a full-size velociraptor from Jurassic Park, or a model and matte painting of the Death Star from the 1977 original Star Wars. It's impossible not to feel that anything is possible when surrounded by such iconic creatures and artwork at every turn.
Upon moving to New York, I met my husband, and together, we decided to build a space where art is for everyone. At Bowery Princes, art is accessible and anyone can tap into their innate creativity. I started teaching classes because I love working with resin, but there's such a high barrier to entry for this medium, with the masks and equipment and space to cure, etc. I've been doing lessons for a few months now and it's incredibly rewarding to watch guests go from "I'm not artistic at all" to "wow, I made THAT."
Come join us, you'll be stunned by how much beauty you can create. We can't wait to meet you.
