Brighter days are in the forecast, so if you’re looking for fun things to do in April in NYC, check out these vibrant workshops this spring! From Earth Day activities that will bring some plant life to the urban jungle to taste-testing iconic NY foods with a creative twist, these workshops will treat you to a one-of-a-kind experience in the city.

Pinewood Derby Woodworking Class

Gowanus, Brooklyn

Runs from 6 p.m. on April 1st

Relive your childhood with this exciting pinewood derby class with Craftsman Ave. First, you’ll learn basic woodworking skills to craft a car. Once you have your base, you’ll be able to personalize your race car with decorations that will light up the track. Then you’re off to the races! It’s the perfect mix of learning new skills and some friendly competition.

Dot Painting Class inspired by famous artists

East Village, Manhattan

Damien Hirst: Runs from 5 p.m. on April 6th

Yayoi Kusama: Runs from 6:30 p.m. on April 19th

Artsclub is offering a handful of their popular painting classes inspired by famous artists this month. The two we are most looking forward to are the Yayoi Kusama and Damien Hirst classes! In the Kusama-inspired class, you will combine two of the artist’s iconic motifs: polka dots and pumpkins by painting dots onto ceramic pumpkins. In the Hirst-inspired class, you will draw from his contemporary style to create dot paintings and spin art. Enjoy a brief art history lesson and then create your own masterpieces in this creative class!

Bagel Baking Workshop

Garment District, Manhattan

Runs from 3:30 p.m. on April 7th and 21st 

If you’re looking for the best New York bagel, now you can learn how to make your own and take home the secrets behind this iconic NY food. You’ll learn the process from start to finish inside a real bagel shop! Sprinkle on your favorite toppings and take home freshly baked bagels and delicious memories.

Hand Build a Ceramic Witch Altar

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Runs from 7:30 p.m. on April 12th

Spring is the season of new beginnings, and you can honor the season by creating and curating your own altar at Bat House. Surrounded by candles and guided by tarot cards and an expert instructor, you’ll learn basic hand-building techniques to craft a witchy ceramic altar in this spellbinding ceramics class. Your handmade item will already be a reminder to bring creativity into your life, but you can even fill it with trinkets and items that inspire you.

Sip and Plant Terrarium Workshop

Manhattan

Runs from 3 p.m. every day in April

Spring is in full bloom, so why not celebrate nature with a toast and a terrarium workshop with Nurullah Gokdogan? In this sip and plant class in NYC, you will make a beautiful Wardian terrarium while you sip on a glass of wine and enjoy some nibbles. You’ll find a lush and magical escape from city life in this hands-on workshop. Perfect for private parties or you can book into the class solo through the whole month!

NoMad, Manhattan

Runs from 2:30 p.m. every Sunday in April

Create sculptures out of nature in this Ikebana class with Ikebana Flowers New York. In a relaxing and peaceful setting, you’ll learn the basics of Japanese flower arranging to create your own stunning arrangement. In April, we like to take extra special care of Mother Nature for Earth Day, and this delicate and balancing craft is the perfect place to show your appreciation.

Rug Tufting Class

Runs from 4 p.m. every Monday-Saturday in April
